How a short, nightly Procreate session has become my essential creative escape.
Lately, a positive new rhythm has found its way into my evenings. Once the day winds down, I’ve been able to set aside a little pocket of time – just for me, every night – to sit down and create a new piece of art in Procreate.
It’s become about so much more than just the act of producing something visual. Each session is a chance to learn a little more, to experiment with a new brush or technique, and importantly, to get more and more comfortable and intuitive with the Apple Pencil on the screen. It’s this steady, quiet practice that I’m finding really rewarding.
I usually only have about 30 minutes, maybe an hour at most, each night. It’s not a huge amount of time, I know, but I try to make the most of it, often working through a mini creative process – from a spark of an idea, a quick sketch, to laying down colours and, if I’m lucky, getting to a point that feels somewhat finalised.
And honestly? This small window has become the only real ‘down time’ I get most days, and it’s quickly transformed into my absolute happy time.
It’s that dedicated moment to consciously disconnect from the day’s demands, to quieten the noise, and just let my focus narrow and creativity gently take the lead. In those quiet minutes, everything else – the to-do lists, the worries, the general buzz of life – genuinely seems to fade into the background. It’s just me, the pencil, the screen, and that wonderful feeling of being completely absorbed in a flow state. It’s amazing what even a short burst of that can do for your headspace.
