The Story Behind the Image: Love Is in the Air
Location: Namakon Beach, Hiratsuka-Shi, Kanagawa, Japan
Date: July 2013
Camera: iPhone 4
I had been on the road for work for what seemed an eternity, from the bustling streets of Hong Kong to the majestic picture-perfect cylinders of Cloud 9 in the Philippines. It was a great trip, but I was hanging to get home.
When finally back home in Hiratsuka, Japan, we went for a walk to the beach to check the surf. It had been raining earlier that morning, and my son couldn’t help himself from jumping in the puddles. Stoked to be home and living in the moment, I pulled out my phone and took a photo of him enjoying it.
It would be the next day on the train to work that when I opened my phone, this photo came up upside down, and I noticed the love heart in the sky surrounded by what looks like stars in the universe.
Maybe it’s just my imagination… but I think the title, Love is in the Air tells the story.
But it’s got to be one of my favourite shots even if it was taken on an iPhone 4 and snapped without thought or purpose.
Sometimes, these are the best shots.
